Doors Open Days at Gaada

Gaada will welcome folk into Da Auld Methodist Kirk in September for Doors Open Days 2021.

Doors Open Days is Scotland’s largest free festival that celebrates heritage and the built environment, offering access to venues across the country.

On Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th September, Gaada’s door will be open 10am - 4pm, and we would be delighted to see you. There is no need to book but we kindly ask visitors to wear masks when inside the building, unless you have an exemption.

Open Day Activities

  • Learn about Gaada’s Work, Community + Future

  • Exhibition ‘Mak a Laang Erm’* showcasing the incredible artwork created in the workshop

  • Screenprint your very own bag

  • Browse our Island Zine Library

  • Shop a range of prints, cards and badges.

Gaada is based in the former Burra Isle Methodist Chapel. The chapel was founded in 1893 and enjoyed a rich 122 years at the very heart of Burra community life. The chapel held its last service in 2015 and remained empty until it was taken on by Gaada in 2018.

Gaada strives to be a safe space and opens its doors every day to artists and the wider community of Shetland. We are excited to be taking part in the festival, which ensures that Scotland’s spaces and stories, new and old, are made accessible to people living and visiting the country.

Covid Safety

We kindly ask that everyone that enters the Gaada Workshop for the open days wears a mask (unless you have an exemption), signs in at the door, and uses hand sanitiser. This helps us keep Gaada safe for the people who work in the workshop. Please note that Gaada’s toilets are not open for public use.

*Mak a laang erm means to help yourself in Shetland dialect, often used by a host to encourage guests when sitting around the dinner table.
