Gaada artists exhibit in Malmö

Three artist editions produced in the Gaada workshop are part of a new exhibition at Sweden’s leading centre for design and crafts.

The exhibition That’s RISO! presents a carefully curated survey of risograph artworks produced by artists, illustrators, designers and activists from around the world at the Form/Design Center in Malmö, Sweden’s leading platform for architecture, design and crafts.

Featured in the exhibition are Shannon Leslie’s publication I Can’t Ever Get Home, the Are You Ok? survey card by Struan Haswell and edition Time in The Archive by Esther McManus.

Gaada is incredibly proud to have supported the production of all three artworks in our Burra based visual art workshop. Gaada director Daniel Clark says “It is fantastic to see the work of contemporary Shetland artists getting some international recognition and it also further highlights the importance of having a nurturing, creative facility like Gaada operating in Shetland.” The works selected demonstrate the diverse range of activities taking place at Gaada. Shannon’s publication was just one outcome from her 2020 Workshop Bursary, Struan made his survey card in weekly one-to-one workshops during lockdown, and Esther’s edition was created as part of Gaada’s 2020/21 visual arts programme, Weemin’s Wark.

Roxana Kaboli, curator at the Form/Design Center said “We believe that this is the first time an exhibition about riso, at least at this scale, will be presented in Sweden. We are especially thrilled to feature artworks from the Shetland Islands”.

The exhibition opens on February 5th and runs until May 8th 2022.

The exhibition is produced by Sweden’s Form/Design Centre in partnership with BEAST studio. Gaada Workshop Bursaries are supported by the Shetland Charitable Trust, and the 2020/21 Weemin’s Wark programme was supported by Creative Scotland.

All editions are available to purchase from Gaada’s Online Shop.
