Peer Group Yule Gathering

Our next Peer Group Gathering celebrates Yule and what better way to welcome the Winter than to get cosy and head to the cinema.

We will gather in Mareel for a social and to watch a free screening of Lagareh - The Last Born by Alberta Whittle, brought to Shetland by LUX Scotland.

Peer Group Yule Gathering
Sunday 27th November

Meet Up: 13:00 – 14:30

Join us for a pre-film social in The Green Room at Mareel. Chat about your work, meet other Peer Group Members and catch up with Gaada news. Grab a coffee from the Café beforehand or bring your own flask of tea.

Screening: 14:30 – 16:00 (approx)

A new video work by artist Alberta Whittle, screening in six venues across Scotland in a tour organised by LUX Scotland and Scotland + Venice.

Lagareh – which translates from the Mandinka language as The Last Born – is a work anchored around theories of abolition, rebellion, ancestral knowledge and love. Shot in Scotland, England, Barbados, Sierra Leone and Italy, the film melds a collection of scenes that give focus to the strength of contemporary Black womxn, whose individual acts of resistance are bound together through the artist’s conceptual storytelling. Gestures, rituals and moments of intimacy are poignantly underpinned by a deep reflection on grief, loss and mourning, a resolute reminder of the trauma inflicted upon the Black body and of white privilege and power.

Tickets are free and can be reserved here: https://tickets.shetlandarts.org/sales/categories/film/lagareh---the-last-born-cert-1
