A Community of Hope

Last night we hosted an event on Zoom that changed our perspective on digital gatherings and remote communities.

The Weemins Wark project has always felt quietly powerful, but at the same time, it has been exhausting, and making the project with only digital interaction has been hard. Last night it all felt totally worth it - the extra hours, the difficult conversations, the feeling of our necks above the line, the rapid changing of directions and re-thinking as coronavirus stood in the way of our mapped path. Our perspective now, is not that we are a small group of artists, archivists and activists squirrelling away behind the screens, our perspective now is that we are infact a HUGE group, an army of hope, a community of kindness!

85 people tuned into A Celebration of Weemin’s Wark last night from all across the world. And we feel grateful, humbled, and admittedly, a little bit teary! Last nights digital event felt warm, and the sense of community was palpable.

Onward! Time to focus on the Weemins Wark Publication, with the wonderful artists Esther McManus and Roseanne Watt.

Thank you everybody!

Weemin’s Wark is funded by Creative Scotland, in partnership with local equalities group Up Helly Aa for Aa, and the Glasgow Women’s Library. Click here to find out more!
