Jen Hadfield "Kokkilorie"

On the first day of June, we present to you Kokkilorie, a new artist publication by Shetland poet Jen Hadfield.

This publication has emerged from a body of work started by Jen as part of the micro-commissions for Gaada’s 2021 programme Safeland. Jen’s beautifully presented book presents the reader with a microscopic poem or gentle instruction for each day throughout the month of June. Kokkilorie is the Shaetlan word for Daisy - the plant whose bloom peaks in the same month.

Jen was amongst the Shetland writers, artists and community groups who in 2021 Gaada invited to respond to the uncompleted projects of Shetland Botanical hero, Walter Scott's, lifelong person project Shetland by Numbers. The emerging work has since evolved into a series of unique publications, all designed and produced in the Toogs Artist Workshop, that deeply connect us back to the Shetland landscape, via the guiding hand of the islands inhabitants.

Kokkilorie is the first publication to be released from this period of work, and is now proudly offered for sale through Gaada’s online shop.
