This year Gaada dipped it’s toe into the annual Shetland Wool Week festival! Over the course of one week we lured 40 knitting-enthusiasts over to the dark side of screen printing! Gaada’s 3 hour workshop introduced first time printmakers to the art of screen printing on textiles, using specially created stencil designs inspired by the studio surroundings of Burra Isle. Wool Week is a big deal in Shetland, drawing in hundreds of folk from Canada, America, Australia, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Italy, Germany…the list goes on. It was a total joy to work with such a mixed group that included participants from just down the road with those visiting from across the globe. We have to admit, initially we were uncertain whether all these knitting fanatics would be into our print workshop - but were delighted to learn this was not the case at all!

The positive response was overwhelming, and we are looking forward to next years edition of the festival, where Gaada will be releasing more workshops that celebrate Shetland’s rich heritage of pattern making!
