New Role for Shetland Graduate

This week Gaada welcomes artist and recent Graduate, Shannon Leslie, to our team in a new role as Workshop Assistant.

The role has been part funded by the Highlands and Islands Enterprise through its Graduate Support Programme, which helps companies in the Highlands and Islands by offering 12-month, well-paid work experience placements in key sectors that span a wide variety of industries.

The programme supports organisations to drive innovation and recovery and provides graduates with much-needed experience to advance their careers.

Shannon was a recipient of one of Gaada’s first Workshop Bursaries, back in 2020 where she spent time in the workshop developing and producing her first artist publication “I can’t ever get home”. Gaada staff were incredibly impressed by the breath of Shannon’s creative skills and since the bursary, Shannon has gone on to graduate with a BA in Fine Art from UHI Shetland and has had her work selected for the upcoming Royal Scottish Academy Open in 2024.

Gaada’s core mission is to support the creative development of people in Shetland, and so we are delighted to have the opportunity to partner with HIE in creating this exciting new role for a Shetland young person. The Workshop Assistant role will focus on providing support to all areas of the growing Toogs Artist Workshop, with a focus on developing digital aspects of the Island Zine Library and Shop. More details will be revealed soon, alongside more news on the Workshop Redevelopment!

For now, please welcome Shannon :)
