Weemin's Wark exhibition at Glasgow Women's Library

Between 19th August - 29th October, Glasgow Women’s Library are exhibiting artwork by Brooke Palmieri, Holly Graham, Hannah Harkes, Isabel Greenberg and Esther McManus from Gaada’s 2020/21 Weemin’s Wark programme.

The project was developed in partnership with Up Helly Aa for Aa, Glasgow Women’s Library and Creative Scotland and resulted in a series of incredible outcomes, including artwork, exhibitions, online events, an archive and a publication. Covid meant that much of the programme was restructured due to lockdowns and travel restrictions, so we are delighted that these outcomes can now be shown together for the first time, in GWL’s beautiful space.

In recent months, the programme has gained a new audience via the Up Helly Aa committees’ recent announcement that women and girls will be allowed to participate in Lerwick’s Up Helly Aa for the first time ever. The timing of this exhibition allows for huge celebration and reflection as we move forward into the future of Shetland’s largest cultural festival.

The exhibition at Glasgow Women’s Library is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 10am - 4.30pm, Thursday 10am - 7pm and Saturday 12noon - 4pm.

If you cannot visit the exhibition in person, you can learn more about the artists work in a series of excellent short films here and look over the whole programme here.
